Traditionally the Leipzig Festival of Lights invites people to come to Augustusplatz square on 9th October. It was the first time in 2011 that the event provided a bridge in Europe: In Leipzig and in Danzig people jointly commemorated the autumn 1989 events and actively participated in the celebrations. The focus in both cities was on themes such as freedom, solidarity and civil commitment.
